Location
The camps takes place at the Agronova Campus, which used to be a vocational agriculture secondary school. It is located in Montbrison, 30 km from Saint-Etienne and near Lyon.
The setting is ideal: during the camps, the fourteen-acre campus is completely at the players’ disposal. It is in the middle of the countryside, quiet and very pleasant.
The Auvergne-Rhône Alpes is a massive French region, with not one but two mountain ranges: the Alps and and the Massif Central. In summer, the weather is lovely. Nature lovers will adore the region, which is perfect for discovering the French mountains, going on long, peaceful hikes and exploring France’s countryside.
Accommodation
The girls and boys will be hosted in rooms that can have from 1 to 8 campers in them, depending on their age and gender.
One floor, with toilets and bathrooms, will be entirely dedicated to girls, and girls only.
The kids will often have free time in the multipurpose common room for extra-soccer activities. They’ll be able to play ping pong and foosball or watch a film on a big screen.
It is worth knowing that the neighbouring towns, Moignt and Saint-Romainle-Puy, which are 4km from the Agronova Campus, all have a good selection of cottages, activities and restaurants. This is perfect for parents who want to holiday near their children.
The sporting Facilities
Saint-Etienne has managed to secure partnerships with nearby towns and their soccer clubs to use their sporting facilities. The campers will therefore be training on pitches nearby the Agronova Campus.
The children will be divided into age groups and will then go to different pitches. The older campers will have two good quality grass pitches at their disposal, as well as an artificial turf pitch. They will go to the trainings thanks to a 10 minute bus journey.
The younger campers will train at the campus and will have the use of the gymnasium for futsal trainings and drills.
Catering and food
During this soccer camp, all the food and catering will be taken care of.
- For full-board campers, this means breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner, as well as other little snacks to make sure the kids are full of energy for their training sessions.
- Half-board campers will have lunch and an afternoon snack.
The kids are sure to love the food and the generous servings!
All dietary requirements and allergies are taken into account: vegetarian, halal, kosher… Make sure to let us know when you are signing your child up to the camp.
Safety and security
The ASSE camps have existed for more than twenty five years. This means the staff have the experience to deal with any delicate situations the kids may find themselves in far away from their parents. The Agronova Campus is perfectly secure, and you can rest easy knowing your child is being taken care of.
The camp program
The essentials

- One tactical session per day

- Visit to the ASSE shop
- Meeting with ASSE professionals (if available)
Training
During the five days of training, the ASSE coaches will do everything they can to adapt their sessions to make sure that every player is enjoying themselves and improving.
On the first day, the coaches will create groups of similar skill levels, so that the kids can participate equally in the training and there are no mismatches when it comes to matches and games.
Every morning, after a warm up session, the three hour training session will take place. This length allows the time to diversify the drills and exercises, to work on several different areas of soccer, like passing, pressing, positioning, ball possession, shooting or free kicks.
After lunch, a tactical workshop will complete and complement the morning training session, and the campers will be able to put their skills to use in matches. Indeed, there will be a daily tournament at 4 PM.
The coaches will put the kids into real-life match situations, with a pre match pep talk and half an hour of preparation before a game.
In terms of goalkeepers, they will participate in all the training sessions and matches, and they will also have special drills dedicated to keepers.
Coaches and coaching method
Here is an interview with Mathieu Frison, the co-director of the ASSE camps. He talks about different aspects of the camp through answers to these questions:
- What is the training methodology at the ASSE camps?
- What kind of level are the camps? Leisure, improvement or high performance?
- Where are the coaches from?
- Are there different forms of soccer at the camp, like 11-a-side, 8-a-side and 5-a-side?
- What are the values of the ASSE camps?
It is worth nothing that all the coaches and staff members are qualified and all benefit from their experience in previous soccer camps. Some of them have been a part of the camps since they started 25 years ago! All qualifications are under the control of the regional authorities on Youth and Sport.
There will be a pairing of a coach and a staff member for every 16 kids. In other words, at least one adult per 8 campers.
Medical assistance is available throughout the camp to help heal minor injuries. In the case of a more serious injury, the injured player will be taken to the nearest medical centre or hospital so that it can be taken care of as soon as possible. Of course, the parents will be made aware of the injury at the earliest possible moment.
Staff and activities
As well as the soccer-based activities, the children will be able to have fun playing a whole host of different games. The campus is very well equipped for this, with ping-pong tables, foosball and a gymnasium for other activities.
In the evenings, the kids will have the opportunity to speak to their parents if they wish to, with a staff member’s help.
Trips and days out
There will be no training session on the Wednesday because the kids will be visiting the legendary Saint-Etienne stadium: Geoffroy-Guichaud. They will also go to the museum to find out about the history of the club. If younger campers aren’t interested, then the staff will find something else for them to do.
There will also be a pitstop at the ASSE gift shop, if the campers want to buy anything for themselves or their friends and family.
