Why do an Inter Milan soccer camp ?
Italy is a the second most successful country for soccer in the world, and Inter Milan is one of its biggest clubs. While their rivals have more silverware, Inter Milan are the only club to have never been relegated from the top tier of Italian soccer. They also tend to have the highest attendance in Italy, and have one of the largest fanbases.
Inter Milan have a fascinating history. A cricket and soccer club in Milan split and two soccer clubs emerged : Inter Milan and AC Milan, and thus one of the biggest rivalries in soccer was created. Amazingly, the two clubs share the same stadium, called the San Siro. It is the largest stadium in Italy. Of course, both teams play each other at least twice a season. This makes for very interesting matches, and one of soccer’s most famous ever photo: Rui Costa from AC Milan and Materazzi from Inter, standing together looking at the flares on the field.
Inter Milan, tactical geniuses
When the Champions League started in the 2009-2010 season, it had been almost forty years since Inter had gotten to a European final. However, they had a special team that year, with exceptional players like Wesley Sneijder, Samuel Eto’o and Dejan Stankovic. They also had one of the very best managers in history leading them : the Special One, José Mourinho.
In the semi-finals, they faced a Barcelona that was in its prime. However, Mourinho put in a tactical masterclass, kept Messi silent and Inter breezed past the Catalan club, winning 3-2 on aggregate. In the final, Inter were resolute and kept a clean sheet, and twice Diego Milito managed to beat his marker and score. That Inter team was united, talented and every player played for the team and for the badge. They will go down in history as one of the best teams ever.
