Why do a Girondins de Bordeaux soccer camp ?
The Girondins de Bordeaux are a very successful French soccer club, managing to win 17 major honours including 6 Ligue 1 titles, making them the fifth most decorated French team ever. They have also been consistent, winning their six league titles across four different decades.
Bordeaux is also a wonderful city to visit. It has fantastic weather, beautiful landscape, great architecture and delicious food. Particular highlights are the Dune du Pilat, the biggest sand dune in the world, and the Mirior d’Eau, the biggest reflecting pool in the world. The Mirior d’Eau is very lively and is one of the coolest places in all of Bordeaux on a hot day.
Finally, if you enjoy drinking wine, then Bordeaux has possibly the best museum in the world for you. Called La Cité du Vin, it is an interactive experience that is recommended to anyone that even slightly likes wine !
Bordeaux, a club that massively contributed to French dominance
In the 1990s, France’s national team was firing on all cylinders and they were unstoppable in the 1998 World Cup, lifting the Jules Rimet trophy for the very first time and two years later, the Euros. Two of their best players were Bordeaux players. The first was Lizarizu, a marauding left back who was a crucial part of the team.
The other was Zinedine Zidane, one of the best soccer players to ever live. Zidane could do it all and whether it was dribbling, shooting, vision, touch, or passing, you could be sure that Zidane would deliver. He scored two goals in the 1998 final and was mesmerising throughout the competition. He played 138 games for Bordeaux, and will almost certainly go down as their best ever player.
