Location
The training camp takes place at the Estádio da Liberdade, Montijo’s leading sports facility, in partnership with the local club CO Montijo.
Montijo is a town steeped in history that has grown alongside the river. Granted in the 12th century by the King of Portugal to the Military Order of Santiago, it was formerly known as Aldeia Galega before taking its current name in 1930. Situated on the south bank of the Tagus, opposite Lisbon, it enjoys an exceptional location — just twenty minutes from the capital by bridge or ferry — whilst retaining an authentically Portuguese atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of tourism.
The Setúbal region, of which Montijo is a part, is one of the richest in Portugal: the Tagus estuary, the Sado Nature Reserve, the Setúbal Peninsula and its wild beaches — an exceptional natural playground for families wishing to combine a training camp with a getaway. For children on the ground, it is a stimulating environment rooted in a strong local sporting tradition, driven in particular by football.
The sporting Facilities
The Estádio da Liberdade provides a professional and well-established setting for the training camp. With a well-maintained pitch, facilities suitable for several groups at once, and a structured rotation system, the conditions in Montijo enable every group — from the youngest (6–8 years old) to the most advanced (12–14 years old) — to develop in an environment designed to foster progress.
The partnership with Clube Olimpico de Montijo brings a valuable local dimension: local knowledge, well-established logistics and deep roots in the town’s football community, all of which directly benefit the participants.
Safety and security
The Estádio da Liberdade provides a safe and well-defined setting, ideal for coaching groups of young players in the best possible conditions. The coaches from the Real Madrid Foundation — UEFA-certified, selected and trained by the Foundation — provide constant supervision, with a ratio of one coach to 12–14 players.
The daily schedule — a mix of technical sessions, scheduled hydration breaks and themed matches — ensures a sustained yet controlled pace, designed with the physical safety and well-being of each participant in mind. For those enrolled in the Multi-Sports programme, afternoon activities are supervised by STE in the same spirit of rigour and care.

Training
In Montijo, the week is structured around a day-by-day progression. Every morning, the groups — organised by age and ability from day one — work on a specific aspect of the game: dribbling, passing, pressing, transition… Targeted exercises, punctuated by breaks and rotations, ensure that each concept is firmly established before the players take to the pitch.
In the afternoon, the pitch becomes an arena: matches and themed tournaments allow players to put into practice what they have worked on in the morning, with all the intensity and enjoyment of the game. For those on the extended programme, the day continues with multi-sport activities led by STE until 5pm.
Friday marks the end of the week with the official graduation ceremony — a moment of shared pride, eagerly awaited by all participants since the first whistle.
Coaches and coaching method
What is taking place in Montijo goes far beyond the scope of an ordinary summer camp. The coaches on the pitch at the Estádio da Liberdade are professionals appointed by the Real Madrid Foundation — UEFA-licensed coaches who work year-round at the heart of the Foundation and the Madrid Academy. Their presence in Montijo is no mere formality: it represents a strong commitment by the Foundation to bring its methods as close as possible to young Portuguese footballers.
On the pitch, every intervention is tailored to the player’s age and ability. Corrections are immediate, encouragement constant, and support personalised. With one coach for every 12 to 14 players, supported by local coaches, no one goes unnoticed — not even the most reserved of participants.
What these coaches impart is far more than just technique: it is a footballing culture, nourished by the values that have made Real Madrid the most successful club in history.
