The city of Palencia:
Palencia is in the region of Castilla y León, north of Spain. It has a population of approximately 80,000 and a long history. It was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century BC and has played a role in many historical events over the centuries. It has also been an important centre for art and culture, with famous artists and writers working and living there.
One of the city’s most emblematic monuments is its magnificent Gothic cathedral, which was built in the 14th century. It is considered one of the best examples of Spanish Gothic architecture and is famous for its beautiful stained-glass windows and sculptures.
There are also many other interesting monuments and historical sites, including the Roman bridge over the Carrión river, the church of San Miguel and the bishop’s palace. Palencia is also a lively city, with many bars, restaurants and shops. It is known for its gastronomy, especially for its local products, such as cheese from Castilla y León and wine from the Ribera del Duero region.
It is also located in a beautiful rural area, with spectacular natural landscapes and national parks nearby, such as the Picos de Europa National Park and the Fuentes Carrionas Natural Park. This makes the city an ideal destination for lovers of history, culture, gastronomy and nature.
Accommodation
The players of the Atletico de Madrid training camp will be accommodated in the Palencia International Residence. It is a modern residence with single and double rooms.
All of them have a private bathroom, Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
There are several communal areas to organise activities: games rooms, table tennis, video room to watch films or matches. This allows the children to rest or relax throughout the intensive football week.
The residence is located a few minutes’ walk from the training grounds. Everything is done by foot during the camp. The children will sleep and eat at the residence and then walk to the Isla Dos Aguas campus to practice and then return.
The sporting Facilities
The Isla Dos Aguas campus offers 4 natural grass pitches to enable the children to have a quality training camp. This allows for precise exercises with adequate space for each group.
The campus also has 4 tennis courts, ice rinks, beach volleyball and lawn volleyball courts, a rugby field and a basketball court. It is therefore a very professional campus to put your children in the best conditions.
There are also locker rooms and showers on site.
Catering and food
The Atletico de Madrid camp is only available in full board. Breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner are included for each child.
The menus provided are dietary and performance oriented to give children all the nutrition they need during this intensive stay.

Training
The Atletico de Madrid camps will help your child to achieve high levels of performance. The methodology is based on that of Atletico de Madrid, which is a renowned institution for the development and training of young footballers. The methodology is based as much on football as on the human values of team spirit, motivation and determination.
The programme includes 3 hours of intensive training during which the value of working hard to achieve goals is promoted.
The training sessions alternate between group work and specific work to ensure that each player progresses on their weak and strong points. Tactical practice will be conducted in group sessions and technical work in more individual sessions (smaller groups). The methodology is then based on games and matches to implement everything that has been seen during the day’s exercises. The matches are essential for progress as they allow for real game conditions.
There is also a specific Goalkeeper programme that is offered during the Atletico de Madrid football camps. Sessions with goalkeeper coaches are organised during the week for this unique position.
Human values are very important in the Atletico de Madrid camps as it is what the club conveys through the professional team. Solidarity, team spirit, challenging oneself, communication and equality are key aspects of this football camp.
Coaches and coaching method
Atletico de Madrid’s Management and Technical teams set up the methodology and supervise the coaches’ training in Palencia. The coaches in Palencia are already experienced and professional coaches working year-round in the Palencia Academy or in professional clubs. They are used to working with young players and especially used to helping children progress. They all graduated as coaches!
The campus is run by the technical director of the Palencia Football Academy, Jorge Gonzalo, who oversees all the organisational and logistical aspects, as well as coordinating all the non-sporting activities of the camp to make sure that the overall experience is truly exceptional.
Staff and activities
Besides football training, the coaches will organise non-sport related activities or games at the Isla Dos Aguas campus or at the residence.
They will remain with the children throughout their stay and will ensure their well-being.
