The inhabitants of Manchester, known as Mancunians, are well known for their friendliness and their cheerfulness. The same can be said for most of the north of England: northerners are known for being welcoming, helpful and approachable. Manchester is a charming city to visit all year round, with lots of things to see and do of cultural importance.

The campers are hosted at the Richmond Park in the university of Manchester, a 10 minute bus journey to the training pitches. A private bus will ferry the young players and the staff each day.

All the rooms are comfortable and functional en-suite rooms.

Training

The Manchester City camps offer 3 different programs for future campers:

  • 100% soccer focused camp: 15 hours of training on the pitch and 15 hours of workshops based on different parts of soccer
  • 50% based on soccer and 50% based on language classes: 15 hours of training on the pitch and 15 hours of language classes

Once a program has been chosen, the kids will be divided into two primary age groups that follow two different footballing programs:

  • 9 to 13 year olds will take on the development program
  • 14 to 17 year olds will take on the performance program

The development program focuses on the fundamentals of the sport. All aspects of the game will be worked on, such as passing, dribbling and shooting.

The performance program uses more interactive methods and in depth workshops and trainings to touch on more strategic aspects of soccer, like positioning for example.

Both programs have 15 hours of training sessions over five days, which comes to 3 hours per day. The training sessions should take place from 10:30 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 4:30 PM.

Each training session is meticulously organized and prepared, allowing for a logical evolution over the course of the week. It generally starts with specific technical exercises and finishes with more general, tactical and team based sessions against an opposition.

There will also be an emphasis on behaviour on and off the pitch. Indeed, work ethic and discipline are massively important for the success of any soccer player.

It is well worth noting that the training session program was prepared in conjunction with Manchester City’s technical team.

Soccer workshop or language classes

As well as that, from 9 AM to 10 AM and from 1 PM to 2:30 PM, the campers will take part in either:

  • Two soccer workshops: diet and nutrition, interviews, recovery… (100% soccer focused program)
  • Or two English language classes, details below (50/50 soccer and language classes program)

Therefore, the camp is intense and the girls and boys will need to be well disciplined and motivated so that they can improve throughout the week without exhausting themselves.

Whether they take part in the 100% soccer focused program or the 50/50 soccer and language classes program, your kids will have a busy week or weeks. Don’t worry though, the staff will keep checking that each and every camper is not over tired and is enjoying themselves. Of course, they will also have free time to have fun with their new friends and enjoy themselves.

Coaches and coaching method

The coaches at the camps are qualified, professional and experienced.

They follow a strict methodology and training program that has been carefully thought out to allow for the most progress throughout the week for the campers.

As well as improving, the aim of the camp is to transmit the Manchester City footballing philosophy to each young player, based on possession of the ball, technical ability and fluidity with and without the ball. Of course, this philosophy has been largely shaped and perfected by Manchester City’s iconic manager, Pep Guardiola.

Staff and activities

As well as the coaches, a team of staff members will take care of the youngsters throughout the week, whether that involves overseeing breakfast, taking the kids to the Etihad Campus for training sessions, workshops or language classes, or anything else.

They will be present at meal times and in the evenings to make sure the campers go to sleep, have a shower and do anything else they need to do. The team will also organise fun games and activities in the morning that the kids always love taking part in.

For the camps dedicated to girls, of course, there will be female staff members available at all times, to make sure the girls don’t feel uncomfortable.

Language Class

After soccer , English class time!

The British Study Centre teachers are obviously qualified to give English lessons, but on top of that, they love soccer. This means that the lessons will be based on soccer, allowing for a much more fun and lively learning experience.

During the 15 hours of learning, the kids will improve their English capabilities with exercises built around footballing themes, such as journalistic analysis, player interviews and texts about the lives of soccer stars.

Additionally, the theoretical lessons will be supplemented with oral practice, through concrete activities like press conferences, match commentary and interviews where the campers play the roles of both journalist and player. Not only is it fun, but the practical aspect of oral activities like this mean that the kids will stay focused and learn English more easily.

After arriving at the camp, the kids will take a linguistic test to evaluate their English level. Each child will receive individualised feedback before each lesson to help them develop their English skills and to give them advice. It is worth noting that e-learning material will be sent to each camper before they arrive, so that they can learn the basics of English and the soccer language and lingo before they arrive.

After the camp, a summary of the classes will be provided so that the kids can build on what they learnt, and the parents have a summary of what the kids learnt. The e-learning will still be accessible a few weeks after the camp too!

This complete, efficient learning program is put in place so that each camper’s progress in English will be obvious by the end of the week.

Remember, depending on the age of the camper, the length and the program of the camp will be different, as follows:

  • 9 to 13 year olds: one week camp
  • 14 to 17 year olds: two week camp
