Reviews of the camp Jean Michel Larqué
Camp facilities
Location
The Larqué summer soccer camp took place in the beautiful Basque Country, the region adopted by former French international Jean-Michel Larqué. The camp was held entirely in the charming coastal town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, on the Atlantic Ocean in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of France.
Accommodation
During the camp, children stayed in the facilities of a boarding middle and high school, which hosts students on campus year-round. Whether in half-board or full-board, campers were comfortably looked after. Rooms were shared among participants, with 3-person and 4-person rooms available.
The sporting Facilities
The sports facilities belonged to the town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and included three large natural grass fields available throughout the summer. Because the Larqué soccer camp ran for many years, these fields were well maintained to ensure optimal soccer practice. In case of bad weather, indoor gym space was used for training sessions.
These fields were conveniently located just a short walk from the lodging, allowing campers to walk to the locker rooms and fields without crossing any streets.
Catering and food
Since campers were accommodated within the boarding school complex, meals were served on site. Menus were varied to ensure children ate well and received the nutrition needed for their soccer training.
Safety and security
The entire camp took place within the secure boarding school complex. Recreational areas and lodging were enclosed within a fenced perimeter to prevent unauthorized access. Non-soccer staff were present with the children 24/7.
Jean-Michel Larqué himself was on site every day from morning to evening
The camp program
The essentials
- Available in full-board or half-board option
- Jean-Michel Larqué is present to supervise the coaches and players throughout the camp
- Training sessions that combine technical and team-focused work
- Daily games to apply what’s been learned in training
- Coaches and supervisory staff hold the certifications required by French regulations
Training
Each morning began with training sessions focused on improving individual technical skills. Children were grouped to promote individual progression, and Jean-Michel Larqué oversaw each group, offering advice throughout the week.
Afternoons were dedicated to team-based soccer practice, with campers participating in tournaments designed to apply lessons learned earlier in the day. Coaches also helped players improve positioning and tactical understanding.
Coaches and coaching method
In addition to Jean-Michel Larqué’s daily presence on the field, all coaches working with the young players were personally selected by him. Each coach supervised an average of around 10 players and held the certifications required by French standards.
The camp’s methodology blended individual technical work with collective team play, with the soccer ball at the center of most drills and activities.
Staff and activities
All supervisory staff (excluding the coaches) were chosen by Jean-Michel Larqué and held, at minimum, the BAFA certification—the French youth activity leader qualification.
Since the camp operated for many years, the activity teams changed little from season to season, creating strong teamwork among staff and a consistent experience for participants.
