Reviews of the camp Jean Michel Larqué
Camp facilities
The essentials
- Summer camp in Saint-Jean-de-Luz – Pyrénées-Atlantiques department (64)
- High-quality facilities (middle/high school that hosts boarding students throughout the year)
- Well-maintained soccer fields near the housing
- Safety ensured by certified supervisory staff
Location
The Larqué summer soccer camp takes place in the stunning setting of the Basque Country, the adopted region of former French international Jean-Michel Larqué. It is held entirely in the beautiful town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a coastal resort located on the Atlantic coast, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department (64).
Accommodation
Throughout the camp, children will stay in the facilities of a vocational middle/high school that hosts boarding students during the school year. Whether you choose the half-board or full-board option, your child will be well taken care of. Rooms are shared among participants, with both triple and quadruple rooms available.
The sporting Facilities
The sports facilities are those of the town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Three large natural grass fields are available to the children throughout the summer. Since the Jean-Michel Larqué soccer camp has been running for many years, these facilities are very well maintained to ensure optimal soccer practice. In case of bad weather, the indoor gym provides a space for continuing training sessions indoors.
Additionally, these facilities are located just a few feet from the housing. Camp participants walk to the locker rooms and fields without even having to cross a single road!
Catering and food
Since the children are hosted within a middle/high vocational school, all meals are served on-site at the school itself. Meals are varied to ensure children eat properly while getting the nutrition they need for their soccer training.
Please note that any food allergies must be communicated before arrival at the camp so that staff can ensure your child’s health and safety.
Safety and security
As mentioned earlier, the entire camp takes place within the boarding school complex. The facilities used for meals and accommodation are just a short walk from the sports fields.
The housing and other recreational areas are enclosed within a secure perimeter, preventing any outside access. Additionally, non-soccer staff are present with the children 24/7.
Jean-Michel Larqué is on-site every day, from morning until evening.
The camp program
The essentials
- Available in full-board or half-board option
- Jean-Michel Larqué is present to supervise the coaches and players throughout the camp
- Training sessions that combine technical and team-focused work
- Daily games to apply what’s been learned in training
- Coaches and supervisory staff hold the certifications required by French regulations
Training
Each morning starts with training sessions focused on developing individual technical skills. During these sessions, children are divided into groups that promote personal progress. Jean-Michel Larqué oversees each group and regularly offers valuable advice to the kids throughout the week.
Afternoons are dedicated to team-based soccer practice. Children are placed into teams and participate in a tournament that allows them to put the morning’s lessons into practice. Coaches also help players improve their positioning and tactical awareness of the game. After all, don’t they say that one match is worth ten training sessions ?
Coaches and coaching method
In addition to Jean-Michel Larqué, who is present on the field every day, all the coaches working with the young players during training have been personally selected and recruited by the former French international himself.
During the camp, each coach supervises an average of about 10 players and holds the certifications required by French regulations.
As for methodology, as you’ve noticed, the Larqué camp blends individual work with team-based application. The soccer ball is at the centre of most drills and exercises the players will engage in throughout the week.
Staff and activities
All supervisory staff (excluding coaches) are selected by Jean-Michel Larqué and all hold at least the BAFA (Brevet d’Aptitude aux Fonctions d’Animateur – a French youth activity leader certification).
Since the camps have been running for several years, the activity teams change very little. This guarantees strong cohesion among staff members, which is clearly reflected in the activities provided for the children.
