Why do an Olympique Lyonnais soccer camp ?
Olympique Lyonnais, or simply OL as they tend to be referred to, have quite a unique statistic : they have seven French league titles, and these victories all came in a row, from 2001 to 2007. During this time, Lyon were more than dominant, they were unassailable.
During this time, OL had some sensational players. Michael Essien was a powerhouse midfielder who went on to do great things at Chelsea and Real Madrid, Juninho was a freekick specialist whose highlight reel is second to none, Eric Abidal was a no nonsense defender who could do it all and Karim Benzema was a very intelligent striker who moved to be Real Madrid’s striker.
In 2010, they managed to reach the Champions League semi-final, shockingly knocking out Real Madrid along the way. In 2020, they also managed to get to the semis, this time shockingly knocking out Juventus, but Bayern Munich, the eventual champions, were too much to handle. This is a club with a proud history.

Olympique Lyonnais have one of the best academies in the world, and have ex-academy players doing well across Europe. Benzema was of course shaped at the club and has gone on to be one of Real Madrid’s best and most consistent strikers. Hatem Ben Arfa, who never reached the heights of his potential but still had an impressive career, was also shaped at Lyon.
