Why do a West Ham football camp ?
West Ham, also known as the Hammers, is a proud club with an impressive history. Consistently one of the biggest teams in England, they are one of eight clubs to never have been relegated from the second tier of English football. In 1966, when England won their only World Cup, three players were West Ham players : Bobby Moore, the legendary captain and one of the best centre backs ever, Martin Peters, who scored the second goal and Geoff Hurst, the only ever player to score a hattrick in a World Cup final.
West Ham are also a club with integrity. Two club numbers have been retired. The first is Bobby Moore’s number six, after serving the club exceptionally well for 16 years. Pele, widely regarded as the best football player, has said that Moore was the best defender he played against, and that man to man there was no one better. The other number retired was Dylan Tombides’ number 38. Tragically, the young West Ham player succumbed to testicular cancer, so West Ham retired his shirt number in honour of his life.
West Ham, a club that can defeat the best
West Ham have dominated English football before however in more recent years, they have not been able to develop like the Big Six has, notably due to a lack of the same investment those clubs profited from. However, due to their fortitude and team spirit, as well as individually incredible players, they are still able to pull off great results thanks to hard work on and off the field.
They also have extremely passionate fans, that some would even describe them as too passionate. West Ham is an exceptional club, with real history and real support from fans, and any young football fan should feel honoured to be able to do a West Ham football camp.
