Why do a Galatasaray soccer camp ?

Soccer in Turkey has always been dominated by three main teams : Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş. However, even among the presence of the two other giants of Turkish soccer, Galatasaray still stands tall above them. They have won the national division, the Süper Lig, a whopping twenty two times since its creation in 1959.

The other main way that Galatasaray stand out is in European honours. They are the only Turkish team to ever win a major European honour, which they managed to do in 2000 by winning the UEFA Cup. They then faced the winners of the Champions League to win the UEFA Super Cup, completing the quadruple that year by also winning the Turkish league and cup.

That quadruple was no easy achievement, especially when considering their opponents. In the UEFA Cup final, they faced Arsenal at a time when they were challenging for the Premier League, and they then beat Real Madrid in the Super Cup final. This club is a giant of not just Turkish soccer, but European soccer too.

Galatasaray, a club that has experienced greatness

As the biggest club in Turkey, a country with very passionate soccer fans, it is natural that Galatasaray attracted some of the biggest players in the world. Gheorghe Hagi is certainly one of those players. A Romanian midfielder, he was an essential part of the 2000 European triumph and will go down as a legend of the club.

Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba also spent several years at the club. Both these players are legends of soccer, and on their day, they were both unstoppable. Drogba was a beast who could finish with both feet and his head, and he could muscle any defender off the ball. He truly was a defender’s nightmare. Sneijder was one of the most talented players in history, and was easily the best player in the world at times.
